Terminology:
PUMP | Fighters will execute a pump @ 55-45nm |
MELD | @ 40nm, fighters will exit AOR search and begin picture targeting |
TRANSITION RANGE | @ 28nm transition range is the minimum range fighters must fire an AIM-120 IOT achieve an active state of HPRF and be out NLT DOR, if on a "SKATE" flow |
DOR & MTR | @ 20nm is the minimum range at which a fighter's "out" maneuver will defeat any weapons in the air and preserve enough distance IOT to recommit on the same group with launch and decide tactics. [Launch and decide tactics is "BANZAI"]. If fighters are on a "SKATE" flow, make sure to give a 20 mile call. this is the range at which fighters will be out nlt 20 if on a skate flow. Minimum Targeting Range, the minimum range at which flight members will share into a group to ensure group elimination, MTR is also a decision tool used by flight leads to directly target wingmen (greater than MTR) or other flight leads (inside MTR). |
TARGETTING DEPTH & FACTOR RANGE | Launch and leave 5 for launch and decide it's 15 TD: The maximum distance from the leading edge of a targeted group that a flight member must target, beyond this range C2 owns targeting responsibility. FR: The minimum acceptable distance between the group being merged and the next nearest group. Groups outside this range are unlikely to affect the merge with the targeted group. Factor range allows merged contact to kill targeted group with enough distance to engage the second group and remain outside that groups maximum stern WEZ. |
SHOT DEPTH | The range behind the closest bandit within which trailing groups will be shot. |
DECISION RANGE | @12+-2nm The minimum range at which a fighter can execute a briefed notch maneuver, remain there for a pre-briefed period of time in an attempt to defeat spikes, and then execute an abort or exit maneuver. This maneuver will kinematically defeat any missiles shot at the fighter and momentarily keep the fighter outside the threat's maximum stem weapons employment zone (WEZ) once the abort maneuver is completed. Usually maneuvers seen here notch exit abort after briefed time the fighter will either naked in, grease defense in or if directed.(pitchback criteria) |
MINIMUM ABORT RANGE | @10+-2nm The range at which an aircraft must execute an MDS-specific standard abort maneuver and initially kinematically defeat any missiles and momentarily remain outside an adversary's WEZ. |
STERN WEZ | @9nmThe maximum range at which an adversary's weapon can be effectively shot at fighters. |
