Hello everyone! My name is Jason Anderson, callsign "Shooter". I'm 48 years old and call Abilene, TX home.
I am a veteran of the United States Army (TX National Guard) where I served in the 111th ENGR BN as part of the 56th Brigade Combat Team (36 ID). I served a tour in Iraq in 2005 and ETS's shortly after redeploying home. I currently serve as a career firefighter / paramedic for the City of Abilene Fire Department as the Lieutenant on Ladder 8 / A-shift.
Flight Sim background and history:
- Played the old MicroProse titles "F-19", "F-117", and "F-15E Strike Eagle II" for many years, then ventured into the Falcon series, culminating with BMS. II've dabbled with Chuck Yeager's Combat Flight Simulator and Fleet Defender as well. If it was a combat flight simulator, I owned it at one point or another. I actually still play some of these on my laptop while on the road.
- Cut my teeth on Microsoft FS98, 2000, 2002, 2004, FSX, P3D, and now the latest iteration of Microsoft Flight Simulator.
- Began flying multiplayer Milsim stuff with Virtual United States Air Force (vUSAF.us) in 2012.
- Owned and operated Virtual United States Army Aviation (vUSAA.org) from 2017-2022, closing that down due to a lack of combat-related opportunities in FSX/P3D.
I have spent the last three years flying with the Virtual Thunderbirds, assigned as #8 (Advance Pilot / Narrator) for the 2022-23 season, then moving the #3 (Right Wing) until recently. Earned the callsign "Shooter" from my time with the team. During practices, we would be executing the High Bomb Burst with the crossover and rejoin finale. I, for whatever reason, kept overshooting the rejoin, hence earning the nickname. Originally coined as Overshooter, shortened to Shooter.
To me, the Viper is the sexiest thing in the sky. I can't wait to start learning more of the combat side of things as my "career" here with the v93rd progresses. I've been flying aerobatics for nearly 4 years, so a change is going to be good.
I look forward to meeting and flying with all of you. Take care and God Bless.
- Shooter (aka Burner by a couple of folks.. LOL!)
