9K31 Strela-1 (SA-9)
Originators Designation:
S-200
NATO Reporting Name: SA-9 Gaskin
Description: A highly mobile, short-range, low altitude infra-red guided surface-to-air missile system. Originally developed by the Soviet Union under the GRAU designation 9K31, it is commonly known by its NATO reporting name, SA-9 "Gaskin". The system consists of a BRDM-2 amphibious vehicle, mounting two pairs of ready-to-fire 9M31 missiles.

The SA-9 GASKIN is a short-range, lowaltitude self-propelled SAM-carrying system based on the BRDM-2 chassis. The vehicle carries quadruple SA-9 SAM launchers on a revolving mount. The missiles are usually f in pairs against each target to increase the kil probability, with an interval between rounds of about five seconds. ired l The 30 kilogram Mach 1.5 Strela-1 missile carries an HE-fragmentation warhead and proximity fuse with a lethal radius of 5 meters and damage radius of 7.6 meters. The minimum range is 250ft and the maximum range is 4nm within altitude limits of 50 to 15000ft. When engaging a head-on target the system has a considerably reduced range. The missile is extremely vulnerable to flares but due to the lack of a launch warning its most potent weapon is surprise if you don’t keep your eyes open.

Specifications:
Max Engagement Range:2.5nm
Max Engagement Height:12,000ft
Min Engagement Height:100ft
Max Speed:
ECM Burn Through
Warhead Weight

Defensive Maneuvers: Easy to detect in open terrain via Targeting Pod. Maintain 3NM+ distance, engage with any standoff munitions. SA-9 Launcher rotates 360-degrees.

No launch warning unless spotted visually or with Missile Warning System. When deployed, SA-9 looks very similar to an SA-13, but the SA-9 is a wheeled vehicle. SA-13 is a tracked vehicle.

Break Turn 8-9g turns+Flares/Regularly dispense flares when in SA-9 envelope. AGM-65/DTOS Cluster Bombs.

Has no IRCCM capability so is very vulnerable to flares and background IR clutter. No radar system so no RWR warning. Integrated targeting and launcher vehicle. Used as part of larger units such as a Motor Rifle Battalion.
