Key Terminology
PUMP – Execute pump maneuver at 55–45 nm.MELD – At 40 nm, exit AOR search and begin picture targeting.
Transition Range (TR) – At 28 nm, the minimum range to fire an AIM-120 to achieve HPRF active state and still be “out” NLT DOR if on a SKATE flow.
DOR (Decision Out Range) – At 20 nm, the minimum range to execute an “out” maneuver that defeats any in-flight missiles and preserves enough distance to recommit using Launch & Decide (BANZAI) tactics.
- If on SKATE flow, give “20-mile call.”
Targeting Depth (TD) – Max distance from the leading edge of a group a flight member may target. Beyond TD, C2 owns targeting responsibility.
Factor Range (FR) – Minimum acceptable distance between the merge with the targeted group and the next nearest group. Outside FR = unlikely to affect merge.
Shot Depth – Range behind the closest bandit in which trailing groups will be engaged.
Decision Range (DR) – 12 ± 2 nm. Minimum range to execute a briefed notch, remain for a set time, then abort/exit while defeating any missiles and staying outside threat stern WEZ.
- Post-notch options: Naked In, Grease Defense In, or Pitchback per direction.
Stern WEZ – 9 nm. Max range an adversary can effectively employ weapons from stern aspect.
